Bio

Kaler Q Huang (b. 1999, Birmingham) is a British-Chinese artist based in London. Exploring forgotten histories and the values of contemporary culture, Huang's paintings draw on a wide range of influences, including Chinese landscape painting, literary references, the history of the Chinese diaspora, biblical stories, folklore, and popular culture. His paintings on silk blend traditional techniques with modern subjects. Previous bodies of work have examined the contrast between how Chinese art and labour is valued in Britain, the Chinese Labour Corps during the First World War, and modern masculinity.

Huang holds a BA in History from Durham University and an MA in History of Art from the Courtauld Institute of Art, specialising in eighteenth-century British art and contemporary art of the African diaspora. His work has been exhibited at the Fitzrovia Gallery, London, and at the Royal Academy of Arts. He can be found on Instagram @kqhuangart .
